CORRIENTE XXI at the Open Science Conference on EBUS

The CORRIENTE XXI team is organising open side events along the Open Science Conference on Eastern Boundary Upwelling Systems (EBUS): Past, Present and Future & Second International Conference on the Humboldt Current System in Lima, Peru.

The time and date for the open events are as follow:

Early Career Scientist (ECS) Event (Tuesday 20/09 from 19:15-20:30)

‘Meet & Greet’ aquatic scientist from CORRIENTE XXI partner organisations:

  • ESPOL – Escuela Politecnica del Litoral de Ecuador

  • UCE – Universidad Central de Ecuador

  • UPCH – Universidad Privada Cayetano Heredia

  • UNMSM – Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos

  • VUB – Universidad Libre de Bruselas

Together with external evaluators: Centro de Investigaciones Biologicas del Noroeste S.C. (Mexico) and Carlos Machado Consulting. This event is to promote research by younger generations and to provide opportunities for networking, and provide a platform for ECS to connect with senior scientists in aquatic sciences, policy and management (in different sectors) for proficient career advice.

Addressing transboundary aquatic issues through academic capacity-building (Thursday 22/09/2022 from 16:30-18:00)

CORRIENTE XXI partners will present their role in the project, three-year progress and how this can be translated into their university curriculum development


  • CORRIENTE XXI (Prof. Nico Koedam) – The importance of a transboundary and integrative mindset for Early Career Scientists

  • VUB (Prof. Tom Van der Stocken) – Global and transboundary processes related to mangroves

  • And partners representatives of each university (UCE / ESPOL / UPCH / UNMSM)

Job Fair (Thursday 22/09 from 18:00-20:30)

A recruitment side event for master students in the field of aquatic sciences and management to meet and talk to employers from different sectors (NGO’s, private sector, governmental institutions, etc.) and to increase employability.

Students can look for internships to complete during their master's programme and possibilities for employment to kick off their professional careers. During this job fair, all different stakeholders will be able to present the activities in their organisation.

Executive Panel event (Thursday 22/09/2022 from 18:00-20:30)

The event will be composed of decision makers and academia discussing the highlights of EBUS conference and science-to-policy interfaces.
